These procedures are based on guidance from Little League International (LLI) and were created in collaboration with the Center for Disease Control and the Aspen Center. For those who participated in our 2020 seasons, you will see that these procedures are similar. It is possible that these procedures could change as additional guidance is issued by LLI, our town or the state. If these procedures do change we will notify you as soon as we can.
Players are required to wear masks at all times, including while on the field of play.
Players are also required to wear a mask in any public area, which would include areas all outside the field of play at our fields.
Spectators are required to wear a mask in any public area, which would include areas at all of our fields and parks.
Dugouts will remain closed for the 2021 spring season. When not on the field of play, we ask all players to sit with their parents on the sidelines, especially in our younger divisions.
The snack bar at Adams field will remain closed for the 2021 spring season.
Please do not bring shared team snacks or beverages to games.
Spectator benches and bleachers have been removed. Spectator areas of the fields will be marked with paint in six-foot intervals to support social distancing. We recommend that you bring your own chair (tailgating chairs are perfect) to GLL activities this season.
Guilford will have field monitors at games at our senior levels, whenever possible, to help reinforce social distancing and safety protocols.
Umpires will be positioned behind the mound.
All adult volunteers (coaches and umpires) will be required to wear a mask at all times.
Post-game handshakes have been replaced with a line up and "tip of the cap" for our Spring 2021 season.
If equipment is shared it must be disinfected before subsequent use. While we will provide all coaches with disinfectants, to support safety and efficiency we ask all players to supply their own bat and helmet for the spring season. We will send additional communication out later this week on equipment tips, and will include a coupon. If you cannot purchase your own bat and/or helmet for financial or any other reason, you may request a loaner by completing this form. We ask that you help us prioritize families in need for loaners as equipment supplies are limited.
We will not play with catchers below the AAA division UNLESS a player has their own gear. This is because of the difficulty of sanitizing catcher's gear, particularly catcher's masks.
Baseballs and softballs will be rotated at least every two innings (In Guilford, it's rare for a ball to last that long due to our wooded surroundings).
Please note that for softball teams that play other towns, we are subject to their "house rules" when playing at their fields.
In the event of a positive case, we will follow recommendations from the town health department as to whether play should be paused for a team or teams.
It takes a community to run successful seasons in a pandemic, and Guilford is an amazing baseball and softball town.
What's paramount is that if you have any symptoms of COVID-19, including fever, chills, cough, etc, do not participate in a GLL event until you have been cleared by a medical professional.
While we cannot eliminate all risk we are confident, having run two highly successful seasons, that these procedures help to manage and reduce risk, and to give the kids a fun season!
