Coronavirus Update

Guilford Baseball and Softball Community,

We wanted to provide you with a brief update on continued regional discussions around Little League. There is some cautious optimism at this point that there may be a play option this summer. Whether we play or not will depend on whether or not youth sports play will be included in Phase 2 of Governor Lamont's reopening plan, tentatively scheduled for June 20th. If youth sports are included in the plan, it's possible that practice could begin in mid to late June with games beginning in early July. An all-star program is also possible at the 12U level that would conclude with a state tournament, We anticipate significant safety protocols being in place to help protect the health and safety of our players and families. Little League International has created a Season Resumption guide that you can review at this link that may offer insight into what these protocols may look like:
To say this is a highly fluid situation would be an understatement - as we've recently seen with Phase 1 plans, details can change quickly based on the data that the state receives on a daily basis.
To that end, the GLL board is beginning to prepare should the option to play come to fruition. This preparation includes preparation of fields, equipment, uniforms, and team construction for the season. We anticipate having to restructure teams given the overall situation, and will have further insight into those details in the coming weeks.
We realize that play may not be an option for all families due to scheduling challenges and any personal concerns that you may have given the situation. We plan to accommodate these concerns by offering a range of options to you, including full refunds for the 2020 season should you choose not to play. Unfortunately, because of how our website works, we have to write manual checks for these refunds and mail them to you, which is extremely time consuming for our volunteers and costly to the league. We ask your continued patience as we work out these details. We anticipate having a survey out to the league in the next week to help identify who can and cannot play. In the meantime, if your family is in urgent need of a refund due to the impact of COVID-19 or otherwise, please reach out to our treasurer, Thomas Steffen at
As always, we hope all of our players and families are safe and well, and look forward to the day in which we can take the field again!
